Support
The Peninsula Community Library has always had and continues to enjoy great support from the community. Below is a brief summary of how we are funded and what you can do to support the Library's operations.
Public Funding
Funding for the library comes from many sources:
Tax revenues: 74% of revenue comes from property tax assessments in Peninsula Township, awarded by grant through the Traverse Area District Library.
Penal Fines: 11% of revenue is received through court awarded penal fines, a percentage of fines collected for offenses such as speeding within Peninsula Township.
State Aid to Libraries: 1.6% of revenue comes directly from the state, based on library class (size) and other data.
Donations: A significant portion of additional funds is received through patron and memorial donations and gifts given by the Friends of Peninsula Community Library.
Miscellaneous: A smaller amount of income is earned through the sale of discarded and donated books, copier and fax usage.
Private Donations:
You can support Peninsula Community Library's ongoing efforts to enhance facilities, programming and collections by making a tax deductible gift to the library. Individuals are entitled to a 50% Michigan tax credit up to $100 per person or $200 per couple for contributions to a public library. Please consult your accountant for details. Contributions may be mailed to:

The Endownment Fund... Planning for Our Future
Meeting the needs of a rural library in a growing community requires planning for the future. The library has established an Endowment Fund to do just that. The Endowment Fund for the Peninsula Community Library is managed through the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation. Donors can use the State of Michigan income tax credit for contributions made to this fund. For more information, the Foundation may be reached at 231.935.4066.
Donations of Books and Materials
We gladly consider the acceptance of donations of books and audio-visual materials. Any books that we do not add to our own collection may go to our Sale Shelves to help support library operations. Large donations of books are accepted during the summer for our annual book sale in August. Please call 232.223.7700 if you have any questions.
