Welcome to the PCL Blog!

Welcome to Peninsula Community Library's updated website!  We are very pleased to be able to keep you current on what's happening here at PCL.  Let us know how we are doing!

Your township library has been a busy place this summer.  Summer Reading Clubs for both kids and teens attracted 525 participants total over eight programs!  Michigan performing artist Kevin Kammeraad presented  his own special combination of music, poetry and stories at our reading club wrap-up, July 30th.  He and his family even stayed for our picnic lunch afterward! Speaking of that picnic, I need to thank my husband Bob, who rearranged his schedule at the last minute to come grill hot dogs for 85 people when the other arrangements I had made fell through.  Everyone had a wonderful time and the rain, through some miracle, held off.

Teens enjoyed the movie Twilight at their party July 27th.  Be sure to check out several of the poems they wrote as part of their club requirements.  See our teen page for those!

The Board of Trustees is sponsoring an Evening in the Park picnic at Bowers Harbor Park Sunday, September 13th from 5-8 PM.  Tickets, $8 per person, are available at the library.  The picnic will include a silent auction of homespun, Old Mission items.  We have already received a quilt handstitched by Helen Vogel, one of Bill Hyslop's Old Mission prints, several locally written books signed by their authors, and the promise of several homebaked cherry pies.  If you have something to donate, let us know!

We are very pleased to announce that our reduced and (confusing!) summer hours are no more.  Beginning August 1st, your Board of Trustees approved keeping the library open for our full hours all year long.

I want to thank our wonderful Book Sale chairpersons, Nikki Sobkowski and Gladys Maguire.  The ladies did a great job of setting up, organizing and cleaning up.  Figures are not yet in, but we are guessing that the sale brought in about $2000.00!

Finally, a BIG giant hug to our incredible custodian, Mr. Randy who set up, cleaned up, helped with the Summer Reading Club Picnic and is ALWAYS here with whatever we need.  When Kevin Kammeraad sang "Ain't It Great To Be Crazy,"  several young participants pointed to Mr. Randy whose own special brand of craziness lights up our lives here at PCL.  To him and to all of the people who help us out here throughout the year at Peninsula Communty Library, THANK YOU!
